I began my art career at the ripe age of two. For my second birthday, my parents bought me my first set of paints, brushes, and a canvas. I instantly took to painting, and art class became the only one I enjoyed in school. When I was 12, my parents sent me off to the Art Institute of New Orleans, a school for talented and aspiring artists. I completed my high school education there before leaving for the California Institute of the Arts for College.
At college, I studied and practiced all different kinds of painting, but nothing spoke to me quite like painting nature did. As I got older and began launching my professional career, I constantly found myself being drawn back to rivers, mountains, trees, and any other part of the natural world I laid my eyes on. For the past 40 years, I have specialized in nature paintings, and that is what I primarily create and sell to this day. Occasionally, I dabble in other areas such as still life, portraits, and abstract paintings.
My biggest artistic inspiration is without a doubt Claude Monet. His works captured the true beauty of the natural world, and it were his paintings that really helped me fall in love with nature painting. His piece The Magpie is my personal favorite. Some other inspirations of mine include Georgia O'Keeffe, Vincent van Gogh, and Vija Celmins. I owe much of my success as an artist to these greats who came before me.
