Graphic design is the act of communicating through form, shape, color, and pattern. Though graphic design shares many similarities with photography, art, and writing, it focuses more on arrangement of the content rather than the content itself. It is both an academic and professional symbolism and a hobby like painting. Graphic design is done through computer programs such as Adobe Photoshop or web-based applications like Figma and Canva.
work done for my theme house in the role of social media manager
I downloaded (pirated) Photoshop in the summer break before 7th grade and immediately proceeded to ruin my vision from staring at my laptop 18 hours a day. I enjoyed the challenge of having an idea in my head that I had to translate into digital work, and I went on to work for my yearbook, multiple volunteer organizations, and for the school. I’m now pursuing a degree in Design under the Visual Communications track while working on design for both the Center for Global Education and Arts@Wheaton.

Photopea is an amazing web browser that allows you to play with many of the same features on Photoshop — it’s a great way to start dipping your toes into the processes of graphic design, which is kind of like cooking. There’s a certain way to start and things that you have to do in order in a way that isn’t necessarily obvious at first.
Youtube tutorials are also the best way to go. Like cooking, once you master the usage of a few tools, you can create endlessly by combining different processes, and following tutorials is a great way to learn how these processes combine with each other.
