Jaffa: Tel Aviv, Israel
Janurary 12, 2013

I toured old Jaffa (Joppa in the Bible); yup, this is (i) where Jonah set sail ... in the wrong direction and (ii) where Peter stayed at Simon the Tanner's house and brought the girl back from the dead and where he had his vision that it is OK to eat meat. This is a *very* old port, one of the oldest in the world with a history where one civilization after another thumps the other, destroys the city, builds on top, etc. We went underground and saw evidence of multiple peoples; the city is 4+ *thousand* years old! really wild.

In addition to some of narrow streets and walls, the photos include one of one the "weapons" that were thrown down on the road to stop horses (ouch) and an old lighthouse. The views from the old city back to the modern city of Tel Aviv on the shores of the Mediterrean Sea are just spectacular. Oh, and like many places, the new recruits (soldiers) are never far away.
