Swimming is a sport competed in around the world by people of all ages. It is low impact and really good for long-term health. It is most popular during Olympic years because of stars like Michael Phelps who have made the sport into a more every-day topic. Not only is it a fun competitve sport, swimming is a life saving skill that everyone should learn.
I got into the sport of swimming as a young kid because my older brother competed in our local summer league. Later on, I joined a year-round club and competed for my high school. Now, I swim at the college level for Wheaton College. My best events are freestyle, but I also compete in the IM and breaststroke events.
There are many ways to get involved in the sport of swimming. For young kids, start with swim lessons and then consider joining a summer league team. As you progress then year round teams can be considered. There are also masters swim groups for adults looking to get involved in the sport.
