Introduction

When you are a woman walking the paths of the computing sciences and you look to the left and to the right of you, it is easy to feel all alone. Other women who embrace the same interests seem to be mythological beings that you may never have the chance to meet in this lifetime.

The reality is that there are many of us, and these are not solitary paths we tread. We have been preceded by generations of women who forged those paths, and we are being followed by those who look to us as role models and need us to point the way.

This website has been created with two purposes: the first is to become a resource on the topic of women in Computer Science. There will eventually be an abundance of links here, as well as profiles and quotes which give our community an identity and a series of human faces. The second purpose of this website is to be a host for "The Guy's Guide to Geek Girls", the just-for-fun essay I wrote in 1995 and posted on the 'Net in 1996. This act had many unforeseen consequences, not the least of which a new role for me as advisor and role model. This project has been born out of that essay, a serious undertaking brought forth from something I did just for a laugh. I would never have predicted that its popularity would have taken me this far.

I hope you enjoy the site.
