GRADING
Your grade in this course will rely on a combination of homework problem sets and small programming tasks, a midterm, a final, and your contribution to the class. The distribution of points will be something similar to the following (subject to change):
| Homeworks (~12) | 60% |
| Midterm | 20% |
| Final Exam | 20% |
Asking and answering questions in class and contributing to classroom discussion will be rewarded. A positive contribution to the course may result in bonus points;a negative contribution, such as disrespectful attitude or behavior, including the use of cell phones or text messaging in class, will result in a penalty.
To discuss a grade with me, make an appointment within 48 hours after receiving the graded work. After that time, the grade is final.
LATE ASSIGNMENTS
Assignment deadline dates are firm. Homework is due at the beginning of class. Once an assignment has been discussed in the class, it cannot be submitted late.
This is not to say that I am unaware that you have other classes outside of this one. If you come to me 48 hours before a deadline with a conflict, we can discuss the possibility of an extension. Plan ahead. These will be granted at my discretion only.
If you must be absent from lecture for any reason, you must have any work that is due at that lecture meeting turned in prior to the start of lecture. Allowances will be made for serious illnesses and emergencies only; speak with me first before assuming you qualify for one of those two categories!
Extensions do not apply to exams. If you are absent on a day when an exam is given in class, unless it is an extraordinary circumstance, the exam cannot be made up.
